— The Jovellanos Maritime Safety Training Center coordinates this conference that brings together startups and European partners.
— 3 European Maritime Safety Training Centres launched 5 technological challenges that received a total of 15 solutions.

Within the framework of the AT VIRTUAL project (European project financed by the INTERREG VB - Atlantic Area programme through ERDF funds), the Selection Event corresponding to the 3rd call aimed at young technology companies that presented solutions to the challenges posed in the fields of Vision Technologies and IoT was held this morning at the Maritime Rescue and Safety Society (Jovellanos Centre).

The aim of this event was twofold: on the one hand, to disseminate the impact that these technologies are currently having in the field of maritime safety and, on the other hand, to give visibility to the participating companies that will compete against each other to win the challenges proposed in this call.

The event was attended by all the partners of the programme from Portugal, France, Ireland and Spain. It started with a welcome by the organising partner - Centro Jovellanos - and the project leader - CEEI Asturias - who presented to the participants the main objective and phases of the AT VIRTUAL project. During this opening, there was a brief introduction about the 5 challenges posed by the Maritime Safety Training Centres (MSTCs).

- Challenge 01. Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima (Centro Jovellanos): requested vision technologies for emergency procedures in a helicopter cockpit mock-up.

- Challenge 02. MTU (National Maritime College of Ireland, Cork) proposed a challenge around Virtual Reality for firefighting training.

- Challenge 03. Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH) requested a solution around Virtual Celestial Environment for Celestial Navigation.

- Challenge 04. MTU (National Maritime College of Ireland, Cork / Ireland) requested a solution around an environmental sensor array.

- Challenge 05. The Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH) proposed a challenge to enhance training in handling and salvage of small vessels.

This was followed by a workshop on successful cases of the application of vision technologies in the maritime field, with the participation of the company Simbiosys, who gave a presentation about the VR technologies applied to training offered by the European Maritime Safety Agency and the participation of the BIC Laval Mayenne Technopole, who exposed how going from the idea to the solution, joining resources.

At the end of the event, it was the turn of the pre-selected startups, that made a pitch in which they presented their business activity in three minutes, a scoring activity to be able to win the challenge to which they applied. The companies that provided a total of 15 technological solutions to challenges proposed in this 3rd call, were the following: Azai Solutions, ByM Ingema, Inklusion Entertainment, Inod Solutions, Pibico, UPIntelligence, Seaproven, Tactica TIC, Triumvrate, Virtual Tour Media and Visuation3D.

Furthermore, the Centro Jovellanos organized a visit to their impressive facilities and a demo-exhibition in which the companies allowed in-person event attendees to test the 3 technologies aim of the project. Between them, there were the startups Pibico and UpInteligence. The first one has implemented the solution to the challenge IoT from Centro Jovellanos and the second one to the challenge Big Data/Data Analytics from the National Maritime College of Ireland.

After the individual interviews, in which each of the startups had the opportunity to hold a meeting with the centre to which they had sent a solution to their challenge, the selection event was concluded. You can follow the video of this 3rd selection event through this link.

It will be on 8 July when the rescue centres, after the evaluations carried out, will choose the solutions and establish the pairings (maritime rescue training centre - startup) with which they will begin the implementation phase.

AT VIRTUAL, aims to accelerate the digitization process of Maritime Rescue Training Centres (MSTCs) in the Atlantic Area by introducing enabling technologies related to the Internet of Things / Bigdata / Vision Technologies to improve capacity, preparedness and response in maritime emergency operations.
