The National Maritime College of Ireland, a faculty of the Munster Technological University, is an internationally recognized seafaring training and education college that delivers high quality maritime safety training to nautical cadets and commercial customers.
This article describes the solution developed for NMCI in answer to AT-VIRTUAL’s IoT call. The safety-enhancing system provides environmentally focussed real-time data to help small boat training instructors make timely decisions in Cork harbour’s changeable water conditions. The article gives insights into challenges faced by the prototype’s designers and provides insights into future potential of the project.
